The celebrated rapper and entrepreneur Tay Grin is the first and only Malawian who has ever won a Channel O music videos award.
The Nyau King took the award home for Best Duo/Group for his performance in “My Type of Girl”, which he made up one mind with Buffalo Souljah and Gal Level at the 2009 Channel O music videos awards.
Before he scooped the award, Tay Grin received back to back nominations for the same awards in 2007 and 2008.
The music video for ‘Stand Up’ in 2007 was nominated for Best Male, Best Southern Africa video and Best Hip-Hop music video and in the following year the music video ” 2 by 2″ received nominations in the same categories.
In 2009, apart from being nominated in the category of the award he did bring home, Tay Grin was also nominated for both Video of the year and Best African Southern video awards for the song “Moto” which featured Wendy.
