URBAN TRENDS: Phyzo’s work ethic

Noel Chikoleka popularly known by stage name “Phyzix” is a multitalented rapper and marketer, a proud father and husband.

Besides rapping and marketing, Phyzix also plays basketball and football.

Phyzo’s work ethic is simply exceptional. Since the launch of his music career with the smash hit “Cholapitsa”, the rapper has been relentless.

“Cholapitsa” is arguably Malawi’s Hip Hop classic of times. The remix was produced by Dare Devilz and engineered by legendary Tapps Bandawe and it features Hyphen, Tay Grin and Piksy of the now defunct Atumwi.

Phyzix has silenced critics and defied the odds, dropping hit after hit and album after album.

He is a rapper with most albums in Malawi Hip Hop industry, followed by 3rd Eye.

Phyzix currently has 5 awards.

Last year alone, he won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year at Malawi Hip Hop Awards and UMP awards namely Hip Hop Act of the Year and Album of the Year.

With a career spanning almost two decades, Phyzix has 13 albums under his belt. As if that is not enough, his 14th album titled “FLAWS” is scheduled to drop on 26 March.

Among other high profile artists, “FLAWS” album features award winning Zambian rapper, Slapdee.

In a bid to create hype and promote the album, Phyzix has released a freestyle which has created a social media storm across the country.

Following people’s reaction and other artists claiming they could do better and also in the spirit of Hip Hop, the rapper has introduced a freestyle challenge which will see the winner walking away with a whopping 100k.

To level the playing field, the challenge is being judged by fellow Hip Hop heavyweights namely Rina, 3rd Eye, Slessor and Barry One.

This far, the challenge is predominantly for up and coming artists which Phyzix thinks is a good thing as a stepping stone to greatness.

We wish the freestyle challengers all the best and congratulations to Phyzix for the initiative.
