“in Malawi we don’t have a Music Industry” – Some big artist once said

Some big artist once said. “in Malawi we don’t have a Music Industry”. When i heard this i thought it was cap then i made analysis and i found out that some how its true. Here are a few things we can look up to that shows that we really don’t have a music industry.

.

1. We don’t have a main music chart. Where we can see which is the number 1 song or number 1 album in the country based on stats (sales, streams, radio plays, downloads). We need a board that will be making analysis, tizinva kuti nyimbo ya hitter Gold, Platinum. Ma Artist azipasidwa ma plaque.

.

2. We don’t have reliable Award shows. Lately UMP was the biggest but they haven’t been consistent. Gwamba brought Hip Hop Awards in 2020 but last year they didnt happen. We need something big we can be anticipating like how they do the BET Awards, MTV awards etc in Nigeria they have Headies, in South Africa they have the SMA’s. Industry yanji yopanda ma awards okhazikika

.

3. An artist does everything by himself/herself. Controlling social media pages. Artist kumafika pomakangana ndi ma fans pa facebook. Artist wankulu. No way!. Big artist sharing songs through whatsapp, artist ntchito yake ndikuyimba the rest is done by management.

.

4. Reliable radio and TV programs. Okay because of technology most people dont listen to the radio and watch local television what if they extend and put the programs on YouTube as well so that people can watch or listen to their favorite programs at anytime. The way they do breakfast club in america.

.

Well just to mention a few thats it for now. We can talk all day. But with that i think the industry needs some change to atleast do better.
